Saint Barnaba School

The Diocese has two schools which are St. Monica Nursery and Primary school which is located within the Cathedral compound at Mkunazini, the other school is St. Barnabas’ nursery school which is under Mahonda parish. The Diocese is also reclaiming the former St. Monica primary School (Now Mkunanzini School) which was confiscated by the government early 1964. If we regain the building we will extend the primary and secondary education there. If the government will refuse to give back the building, the plan we have is to build a school at Kiungani area.

Saint Barnaba Nursery School

Currently the school accommodates about 38 children from different religions. The school which is under the management of St. Barnabas Parish Council, started in 2003 at Mahonda which is about 30 Km North of Zanzibar town, with one class and one teacher in a semi-permanent building. The purpose of opening a school in the area was to meet the desire need of the community in Mahonda. Plans for the construction of a permanent building started in April 2004, and it was to be completed on the first week of June 2004; but due to delay of funds from ERD, ECUSA the actual work was completed towards the end of December 2004; And on February 6th 2005, the school was officially inaugurated by the Rt. Revd Douglas Cameroon, retired bishop of Diocese of Argyll and Isles in the Scotland.
